3 months ago mom turned 70 and wants to know does she have to start withdrawing money from her Roth IRA? Can she also continue to make monthly contributions?
JAMES PATRICK
She is NEVER required to take Minimum required Distributions from HER Roth account. She can continue to contribute to a Roth provided she has earnings from wages, salary, alimony, etc.
There is NO age limit for contributions to a Roth.

I had this question also,

can someone tell me where to find a cite that cays you don't have to take MRDS from Roth IRA's ?

Thanks
pax
Minimum Required Distributions is a concept created so that the amounts in IRAs and qualified plans can be taxed. Because amounts distributed from a Roth IRA are not subject to taxation, there is no need for a MRD.

Mkelly: You can find this written on page 58 of the current version of Publication 590. It specifically says, "You are not required to take distributions from your Roth IRA at any age."

Hope this helps!
