We currently are running Relius 6.0 on several stand alone workstations--we are considering changing to running Relius on a network. Any input as to anyone's experience, problems, challenges, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I did this about two years ago and it went rather smooth. Hardware prices are so cheap these days it is crazy not to run a server. We opted not to bring a Corbel tech out and did it ourselves which wasn't all that tough....although it did take some time. Someone will need to hook the network stuff together so probably need a computer guy for that-we had one in house.

The main thing is when you buy the dedicated server (they have a list of compatible manufacturers and the low end model seemed to work great for us) you need to send it to Corbel so that they can install the database-they did it no charge and turn around was quick. Basically, consolidate the data on the stand alones to a single pc using export/import function, transfer data to server (transfer disk supplied in instructions from Corbel) and then install program on individual pcs. We had a few problems with the custom reports, but no worse than the ones encountered during updates.

Important to call Corbel tech and get instructions from them regarding software and hardware requirements. Corbel has excellent support and if you give them a heads up that you will be performing this operation it seems to help with scheduling. Anyway, it can be done-just give yourself ample time and then some as there is always a minor glitch that eats up time.

I would agree with TAG. We migrated to network version when we upgraded to 6.0 - summer of 2001. We only had 3 w/s, but it has been a time-saver both operationally and from a software maintenance standpoint. Hardware is reasonably priced. The key is to plan and to work with Tech Support. They took good care of us. Contact them before you make a decsion and they will give you a lot of good information. The support personnel we had, used their past experiences to help us and save time and effort.

Workstation size?

Do the endworkstations need to be a certain speed, RAM when being networked?

I saw the server requirements... what about the PC's?

e.g. Celeron 333mhz 128RAM is it good enough?

I haven't looked at the specs recently, but when we were planning our conversion, the hardware information that was available included minimum and recommended standards for workstations. I think you could get that information on the web site.

this is entirely my opinion - 333 mhz isn't where you want to be these days. Anything under 500mhz is too slow for a production environment.
