Full Version: Multiple plan participant (of separate plans & employer)

Just wanted to run this by the brain cells of those who may have had a similar situation come up.

It appears that if a participant, for whatever reason, is participating in two separate plans, two separate employers, that;

IF Ssn is the same, then the compensation entry fields are one and the same.

In other words, in order to have separate comp & entry fields, the multiple-plan-participant would need to have a unique division code for compensation & deferrals etc.

I guess one could just create a 'non-default' division for each plan, just in case? There are some fields that remain separate at plan level, but the ones that matter appear to be aggregated.

Not 100% sure how exactly this would work. Any input appreciated.

The personal data for this participant is unique.

However, the compensation IF employed by 2 separate employers is also unique.

IF the participant is in 2 plans of the same employer, then compensation is whatever the employer pays the employee. There should not be separate compensations (except for potential different definitions of what is included for benefits / allocations).

I have a participant who happens to be in two separate plans, and the same comp fields are being used for both plans by the Relius system _at year end_. That's what is happening in version 8.0, anyway. If I key year-end compensation into comp & entry for 12/31 in one plan, it shows the same comp in the other.

I imagine that if payrolls were processed separately, that compensation would total separately and correctly, however in this instance I'm going directly into the comp and entry screen for a participant who has the same SSN for both employers. This is in order to input total compens at year-end.

I wish they were related plans, unfortunately that isn't the case.

OK. Let me clarify a couple of points that are confusing me (it is early so bear with me).

The two separate plans are sponsored by different employers? DC plans??

You are entering compensation into the Compensation Entry screen for one plan and the compensation shows up in the other plan.

I just tried it and can not duplicate the problem. Please export both employers and send the files to me and I will determine what the problem might be.

My apologies - it appears to work fine now, separate and distinct plans, separate and distinct def and comp, same ssn.

I just don't know - I thought it was tested, and thought I had run through it several times, but I'm not able to recreate it now.
