We are looking for "outside the box" ideas to assist employees with gas prices. We are in a rural area and many employees live and drive from other surrounding counties and states. Mass transit benefits are not available for us. Would be interested in flexible scheduling policies or subsidies etc. that other employers have tried.

My mother runs a restaurant in the middle of Nebraska. She is scheduling people for more consecutive hours (at their request) so that the trips they make are worth the drive. Might be an excellent time to try 4-10 scheduling (if your business needs permit).

On of my company's facilities (in Arizona) is doing gas cards for employees who live more than 25 miles away from the facility. It's a nominal amount, but it helps to make up the difference from "old" gas prices to the new higher ones.

Good luck with this one...please report back. I know it's a common problem at this time!

Hello
From a global perspective, we implemented our own transit mechanism for employee in Mexico who did not own a car. We bought a bus, hired a driver who picked up and dropped off employees at the company.

Just an idea. Look into the costs.

Is telecommuting too far outside the box, or too inside the box?
