"Contributions increased across the board for all age groups but rose more for older investors -- up to an average of 6 percent for those in their 60s -- from $4,674 in 2009 to $4,960 in 2012. The lowest contributions were made by those in their 20s, reaching $3,235 in 2012 from $3,154 in 2009."
