Move to do away with Roth

I think that our system of government is quite remarkable. In my view, the problem is that not enough citizens will get involved, express their opinions, and hold our elected officials accountable for their actions.

However, this seems to be getting off topic.

...but then again, What Do I Know?

Dh,

While Congress passed the retroactive law in July, 1998, the fact that the loophole was going to be closed was well publicized from the outset of the Roth IRA rules.

The reality is that the taxpayer in the case was not blindsided by the law change. It appears to me that the taxpayer knew the risk or should have known the risk of his maneuver, but felt that he could get away with it on a legal technicality. He was wrong.

This thread is getting a little thread-worn - and desolving into speculation and offtopic. As one of the board moderators, I am going to close this thread. Anyone may open a new thread... but hopefully we will have some facts or circumstances to think about or focus the comments. Thanks all for posting on this topic.
