I would appreciate information about anyone who can translate SPDs and other plan communication materials into Spanish. I'm hoping to find someone with employee benefits experience. I understand ERISA does not mandate the translation. Thank you.

Employee Benefit News publishes an annual directory that lists about 10 sources for SPD translations. EBN is out of Washington, DC, I think, but I don't have a phone number.

My firm uses a double translation process. We use the services of a Spanish language translator who can write in the correct idiom as our target audience. Then we do a direct translation by another Spanish reader who uses the same idioms as the target audience aagainst the original plain English version we created for the client's English reading folks. Where ther are differences, we try to find words that will have the correct meaning in the target idiom. This is not usually a problem and we are able to accomplish the translation at a very economic cost.

If my firm can help you with this process, please contact me.
