  1. Exactly. This is causing some anxiety to say the least, first in trying to get to a figure and then the impact of reporting altogether and causing an audit trigger. It seems as though the DOL should have provided more time for Plan Administrators to prepare for the definition change.
  2. The 2015 5500 updated the definition of line 4l on the Schedule H to Line 4l. You must check “Yes” if any benefits due under the plan were not timely paid or not paid in full. This would include minimum required distributions to 5% owners who have attained 70½ whether or not retired and/or non-5% owners who have attained 70½ and have retired or separated from service, see section 401(a)(9) of the Code. Include in this amount the total of any outstanding amounts that were not paid when due in previous years that have continued to remain unpaid. Does anyone know why this was not included in the "Changes to Note" in the 2015 instructions? It does not appear to be optional.
  3. Recently, we filed 9 separate 2015 5558s for a client, all at the same time. The confirmations that the client received had the correct EINs, but all of the PNs (plan numbers) were listed as 000. Has anyone seen this recently?. After contacting the IRS, their response was, oh well, at least you got 9 confirmations back, so you should be okay. Just checking to see if this is systematic for 2015 extensions or a one off. Thanks!
  4. Called the IRS, they did not provide any exception for the FIRE site outage. Suggested filing prior to the scheduled update period.
  5. From the IRS Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) site:Note: FIRE Production system will be down from 6 p.m.(EST) Dec. 11, 2015, through Jan. 18, 2016 for yearly updates. Question: Will the IRS accept paper 8955-SSA filings while the FIRE site is down during this time?
