  1. Somewhat confused. If it is a good idea to inform the address change (which seems to be the suggestion), why haven't most of the commenters (who are experts) filed an address change after a final return (which seems to be the case from reading all comments)?
  2. Thanks for your answer. My thinking was that IRS should be able to match my name and EIN number on the submitted final 5500 form to my Social Security number on the tax returns I will be filing after I move to a new place so that they can send any possible notices about the 5500 form to my new home address which will be on the future tax returns. Am I wrong to think this way?
  3. Final 5500 EZ form was filed some time ago. I may be moving to a new place, which is different from the address used on the final 5500 EZ form submitted. Is it necessary to inform IRS of the address change?
  4. If you are filing a final 5500 EZ return (because the plan was closed and the assets distributed), but this is also your first return (the assets never exceeded $250,000 so there was no need to file), do you check both boxes for the first return (A (1)) and for the final return (A (3)) on part 1 of the 5500 ez? Or do you check only one box, either the first return or the final return? Thanks.
  5. Hi This question pertains to a plan that has less than 250,000$ so there was no need to file 5500EZ annually, and just need to file 5500 EZ for the final year of the plan. If the plan was terminated near the end of 2017, but the assets were distributed in early 2018, I realize that you need to file 5500EZ for the short plan year of 2018. However, do you also need to file 5500EZ for the year 2017 just because the plan was terminated in 2017? What year is the final year of the plan in this case? 2017, the year the plan was terminated or 2018, the year assets were distributed? Thank you very much.
  6. Hi, Probably a very simple question, but I couldn't find any guidance. If the plan was closed and distribution was done early in the year, say March 2018, and you need to file 5500 for the short plan year of 2018, which year 5500 form should you use? I asked this because it seems you should use the year 2018 form 5500, but the year 2018 form 5500 will not be available until the early months of 2019. Can you just use the year 2017 form 5500 for the short 2018 plan year?
