Company X has about 500,000 "representatives" (most all incorporated) of which about 30,000 participate in a thrift plan effective 1/1/01.

How does Company X complete Form 5500?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I don't really have an answer, but thought I would mention that if you have a mutliple-employer situation, only 1 5500 is filed for the plan. However, each employer that contributes or is a part of the plan must file a separate Schedule T.

I did not understand the part about the 500,000 "representatives" who are incorporated. Are you saying there are that many different employers involved, participants, other ??? And, I'm assuming you're refering to the thrift plan's 5500, correct?

As far as I know they have adopted the plan.

BUT, I should have used 1/1/02 as the effective date...which is the reason that I have been speaking in vague generalities - there is no plan document to refer to as of yet...

Thank you dubya for your response - I need to gather my thoughts before I reply, however.

If the multiple employer plan stipulates that the

contributions from each employer are available only to that employer's employees, then

a separate 5500 is done for each employer and it's filed as a single employer plan. Is that correct?

What if the plan is an employee deferral only plan? Obviously the contributions made are from that individual employer/employee? Separate 5500?

Is there someplace else on the Form or attached schedules that indicate it's a multiple employer plan?
