Guest MSMA Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 Please advise / confirm on the following: We administer accounts which run July - June and September - August. Would we be correct that the July - June groups should now be filing with the "2000" form for the year 2000-2001 (going by the START date of the plan year)??? What happens if our accounts call to get the forms from the IRS and they are told that they are on back order - - - and as a result will not be able to file in a timely manner? Any and all advice, recommendations, suggestions appreciated.
Guest Emiliano Posted January 26, 2002 Posted January 26, 2002 Don't wait for the last minute to get the forms you need.
Theresa Lynn Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Just a thought--You may want to make sure that the individual who is ordering the forms is requesting specifically the 2000 Form 5500 filing package and not the recently released 2001 package. While the 2001 package is backordered, the 2000 forms should be in stock. The person taking the order may be misunderstanding the order unless it is specifically noted that the 2000 version is being requested.
Guest MSMA Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Yes, you are right...that is what happened with 2 of the accounts. When they read our instructions, they claimed they did not see the part about Forms corresponding to the start of the year (as opposed to the end) I think we may have this under control now. Thank you for your response.
Theresa Lynn Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Sorry for being so vague. I meant to say that the IRS staff person taking the order might misunderstand that you wanted last year's forms. I have learned that you need to be specific, particularly where the inventory is changing and multiple years may be involved.
