We are new to Relius and was wondering if anyone out there uses Microsoft Word to produce reports such as participant statements. We do not currently have Crystal and do not have any capability of customizing the Participant Statements to our liking. If someone does export the data to a word format, I would greatly appreciate some input.

I have not yet used Word for statements, but I have used it for the Plan Specifications and some other reports. I'm on version 7.1 and, unfortunately, a change was made from Relius 6.0 to 7.0 (& 7.1) which makes it difficult to do edits in Word. I was told by Support that it has to do with the way Relius & Crystal save the "Word" reports now. If you are using Relius 6.0, you can save to a Word file and edit as you need to. Sorry I could not be more helpful!

pmcaduff is right. At version 6.0, sending reports to word and then editing them was very simple and worked pretty well. But even that doesn't sound like it would work very well for you. At 7.1, you are unable to edit the data at all once it is in Word.

I would suggest that you get licensed for Crystal if you really need to do custom reports. I think what Corbel charges for that is akin to robbery, but if you plan on doing alot of customization, you almost have to have it.

If you are doing Daily Val and have over 2,000 participant statements per quarter, another option could be to outsource to Newkirk. You can produce Newkirk's Superstatement through the Relius recordkeeping system.

Here is some general info:

We have attempted to take a census request in Relius 6.0 and download it into Microsoft Word in order to edit it (add a column for a matching contribution). We were unsuccessful and had to use Excel. This required considerable work in Excel. Any help as to how to use Word would be appreciated.

Does this mean that you are trying to add the column AFTER sending the report to Word? If you are, you will have problems. You would be better off adding the column in Crystal.

Yes, we used to add a column for matching contributions in Pentabs. When we converted to Quantech we immediately realized that we could not just add columns to census requests or certificates. However, when we tried to use Word it was a mess--so then we added the column when we used Excel.

We were told that without knowing how to create custom reports in Crystal, we should try to download the census request report in Word and edit it there.

Is this totally incorrect? Or is there a way to use Word to "customize" Quantech reports?

enclosed is a census verification that includes column for both deferral and match.

assuming the tables are the same in this report as in the census request, you can copy the match field from this report to the census request.
