Guest MCarey1 Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 I am doing some preliminary completion of 5500's and in doing the Schedule D to indicate that the PSA we participate in does not act as a DFE and file their own forms, I receive a warning telling me that more information will be required. I know that Aetna sends detailed information to our trustees regarding where the money is invested. Does this have to be included with the 5500 or are they looking for something else. This is a small plan so there is no Schedule H but an I. I am using Relius.
R. Butler Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 You are most likely getting the warning because you are not entering the EIN/PN. Each fund have an EIN (probably the same for each fund) and a PN (this will different for each fund). Aetna should be able to provide that to you.
Guest MCarey1 Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 I am entering the EIN and the Plan Number. To indicate that the DFC does not file, I enter 000 at the plan number and that is when I get the error message. The error message states that because I entered 000 which indicates that the DFC does not file, it will require more information on the Schedule H.... I do a "H" because it is a small plan. But is the IRS looking for something from me for the small plans as well. I indicate the total amount of assets invested in the PSA Thanks for your response.
R. Butler Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 I am not an expert on DFE filings, but I am fairly confident that you don't complete a Schedule H for the Plan. A Schedule H is for large plans and for the DFE. Are you certain that Aetna isn't filing a 5500 for the DFE? If they are, they can give you a 3 digit PN for each fund. You only enter 000 if the DFE does not file.
Guest MCarey1 Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 No, the Aetna information says, "we have not filed the Separate Account Assets and liabilities statementi the DOL. We are not acting as a DFE. We are unable to file directly as we do not oossess the necessary infomation. We use the alternative approach and send a statement of separate accounts assets & liabilities to each plan sponsor. So I guess my question is does that statement have to be attached to the 5500. It is rather detailed and reports all separate accounts. Thanks
R. Butler Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 You don't have to attach anything to the 5500. For a small plan the requirements aren't going to differ whether or not a 5500 is filed for the DFE. The warning you get appile to large plans. I apologize for so many responses. For some reason I couldn't get it through my head that Aetna was indeed not filing a 5500 as a DFE.
Guest MCarey1 Posted May 2, 2002 Posted May 2, 2002 Thanks, so all I do is complete part 1. This is what I did last year and got no warning. I guess this is a new edit for Relius. Thanks so much for your help. I am a lone pension administrator here and this bulletin board is my only salvation. Marybeth
