Guest Philip Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 I assume that the Central States Teamsters plan is underfunded. Does anyone know how we can confirm that quickly? They won't reply over the phone.
MGB Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 There are many ways to determine the funded status of a plan. E.g., based on the funding method being used to satisfy ERISA standards, based on the calculations for withdrawal liability, based on the methodology required for disclosure in the audited financial statements....I could probably list a dozen more. None of these measures use the same assumptions of future events and the plan could be overfunded on some measures and underfunded on others. Some of these measures are public information, others are not. For what purpose are you looking for this?
david rigby Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 You can look on http://www.freeerisa.com/ There is a listing for "CENTRAL STATE SOUTHEAST AND SOUTHWEST AREAS PENSION FUND" Is that the one you mean? I'm a retirement actuary. Nothing about my comments is intended or should be construed as investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Occasionally, but not all the time, it might be reasonable to interpret my comments as actuarial or consulting advice.
Kirk Maldonado Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Based on my withdrawal liability experiences with them a number of years ago, I'll be that they will be underfunded for many years. Kirk Maldonado
