DOL Inquiries

Our office has recently had quite a few second requests from the DOL on 2000 tax form inquiries.

We received most of the initial inquiries in early summer (which we answered) and are now receiving second requests on the very same questions again!

Is anyone else experiencing this? It is very frustrating and it wastes time!

What a pain! You didn't say when you answered the initial inquiries, perhaps they crossed paths in the mail.

A year or two ago we received duplicates of several inquiries days apart. We would receive an inquiry on Monday and two or three days later we received the exact same inquiry. These weren't second requests, so we replied to the first one received and pitched the second and haven't heard back.

We make it a practice to answer these things within the 30-day time frame they give us.

The worst is terminated plans that are already in storage that have to be pulled out so a second response can be made that matches the first response!

We recently received an inquiry letter from DOL that is identical to a letter to which we responded five months ago. I have certified mail receipt for our original response, so I know that the DOL received it. I will certainly note this in our response to the new letter. Interesting in that the "new" letter makes no reference at all to the prior letter that the DOL issued. Looks like there could indeed be a processing problem at DOL. Let's hope that we don't get additional letters!

Same thing happened to me. Identical letter from DOL. I called and they had no record of our June 2002 response. They suggested Certified Mail for responses in future, but it does not look like that solved the problem for other TPAs...

We have had the same problem. I continue to send them back with the same information.

ditto....

duplicate original requests months after original request and timely answer.
