Guest krcrider Posted February 14, 2003 Posted February 14, 2003 I'm trying to do a mini-survey and find out what is the maximum age that dependents can be on your health (medical, dental and vision) plans? Currently we are up to age 25, but after age 19 you must be a full-time student and submit proof that you are every year. 25 seems old to me. Could you also let me know if your plan requires full-time students to submit proof or if you go by the IRS dependent regulations that if you are NOT a full-time student then you must reside at home. Thanks for your input.
Guest NBastunas Posted February 14, 2003 Posted February 14, 2003 Children to their 19th birthday unless full time students and then until their 24th birthday. Status is periodically verified depending on the plan. Every semester if services rendered up to a certification once a year.
Ron Snyder Posted February 15, 2003 Posted February 15, 2003 Dependent ages are established by the underlying health plan. There are no age limitations in Section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code. All that is required is the relationship and meeting the support test.
Mary C Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 Our plan coverage to age 19, 23 if full time student and proof of student status is required.
mroberts Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 Why not just ask your benefits consultant/broker about this provision? A survey really isn't going to mean anything unless hundreds of people respond. Anyways, the standard is to age 19, 23 if a full-time student. However, with that being said, age 25 if a full-time student is common. I've also seen up to age 26 before as well. My suggestion would be to leave it at 25 if you can. Dependent students are participants that you typically want on your health plan since they tend to incur little to no claims.
