We've heard a lot about electronic HR/benefits communication, but I'm curious to know who is really doing it and how. What companies are using it with their employees and what exactly are they doing? What firms are able to effectively help companies do electronic HR/EB communication and what and how are they actually doing it?

I'm really looking for specific companies and specific applications. Thanks.

I think electronic communication takes a variety of forms -- e-mail, internet/intranet, IVR, etc. E-mail been an extremely useful benefits communication tool for the bank and professional services firm I've worked for. Employees in those companies have had ready access to PCs and the company used it for other communication as well.

Internet/intranet has been a different story. Currently, the outsource vendor we use for administration has sites for us for 401(k) and H&W (this one is under development). However, while they're good for transactions, they're not good for communication because we don't control it. We're looking at doing our own web site with links to the transaction sites of this vendor, but then you get into issues of technical expertise for development and maintenance.

I think whether electronic communication is a revloution for you depends greatly on your company and employee demographics. It is definitely not one-size-fits-all.
