We currently use the SunGard STATs recordkeeping system and are considering converting to a new system.

All of our plans are balance forward, but we are planning to go daily in the future.

Any pro/con comments for Quantech, Datair or whatever else you use would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't do daily, but have a number of years experience on Quantech and its precursor Pentabs. System accomplishes everything I want, well, of course not.

It does the basics very well, with update 5.0(coming soon) it will now do statutory exclusions, which is really the last piece of 'basics' it needs to do. everything else is a plus.

Biggest gripe I have heard is training. Thus, learning curve is great for some people. If you show up for their training having looked very little at the product, you will be overwhelmed. (They do have a video they 'require' you to look at beforehand)

all in all I am very satisfied, but heck, that is the pension system I learned on so I know a lot of ins and outs, what to watch out for, etc. Used to work as a service tech for the Pentabs systems (Quantechs is the Windows version of that program)

so, maybe you can't take my word for it, I am prejudice in favor of it.

If you go with the product, make sure to join a user's group, they can be very helpful.

Customizing reports is actually fairly easy, and this comes from someone who knows nothing about Crystal!

maybe I shouldn't say any more, but feel free to contact me if you have some specific questions about system features that you would rather have answered from a user rather than a salesperson! (Pension type questions, not hardware)

I agree with Tom Poje in that the biggest obstacle in a switch from STATS to Quantech is the training/learning curve aspect. Quantech is a vastly more comprehensive system than STATS, especially when using Quantech Professional, the daily version. However, we offer complete basic training, training in conjunction with 9 independent User Groups, and advanced training.

Additionally, moving into daily from the capabilities offered in STATS is a very big step. Unless your firm has staff experienced in daily processing and recordkeeping, you may want to start out offering only balance forward services and slowly transition into daily. Our modular approach to licensing Quantech enables this.

Lastly, we have had several STATS users successfully make the switch to Quantech. If interested, contact our sale support line at (800) 326-7235 ext. 1100 and we'll get you in touch with a sales rep that can give you some reference names of former STATS users.

Thanks for your inquiry,

Tom Makeever, Corbel VP Sales

Thanks, Toms, for the great answers. I am just on the tail end of converting 1600 plans to Quantech from two other systems (Pentabs and an in-house system). None of our plans on Quantech are daily valued (we use Trustmark for those). However, the functionality is certainly there. A few additional notes:

(1) Training: Tom P is absolutely correct. Make sure your staff is properly trained before they use the system.

(2) Maturity: Quantech has been on the market longer than (I think) any other program of its type, definitely longer than Datair.

(3) Quantech uses Oracle as its database. Oracle is currently the Lexus of databases.

(4) Tech support is usually swift and reliable.

Good Luck!
