We will soon be installing the 5.0 version of Quantech which we understand is still in BETA test mode. Could anyone offer some advise on possible problem areas we should be aware of? Also if anyone has a listing of the enhancements that the 5.0 version offers, that would be great. Any information you have about version 5.0 would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

am doing some Beta testing.

currently the biggest problem I know of is that the system won't run a transaction if a participant goes over the 415 limit. supposedly that is being changed.

there are some fairly big changes. Vesting schedules are no longer part of plan specs. they are now a separate table.

user definable elements have been increased to 100.

adp test and nondiscrimination will do statutory exclusions, and you can also exclude union people from the adp test.

if you have two accounts, lets say, both subject to vesting, and both are coded the same fund (e.g. CASH) [perhaps one is individual investment]then you have to add a description to the accounts to distinguish them. There is a field to do this, but just be aware.

lots of other changes, but those are a few for you to ponder.

As Tom Poje states, Quantech 5.0 will be a major release with lots of new features and functions as well as new versions of Oracle and Crystal. Since 5.0 will be a very significant release and affect many parts of Quantech, Corbel will be releasing, for the first time, an "Electronic Impact Statement" which will highlight the many changes and new enhancements offered in 5.0. Our goal with the Impact Statement is to communicate the changes in 5.0 so clients can begin using the new features quickly and easily as well as to help ensure a smooth transition from 4.x to 5.0 for our many users.

Look for the Impact Statement in the next couple of weeks.

Suzie:

As an application developer and DBA, I must start this message by saying, "DON'T USE A BETA VERSION OF SOFTWARE FOR PRODUCTION DATA!" That being said...

A few months ago Corbel mailed out a list of expected enhancements in Quantech 5.0. If you'd like a copy of that, I can dig it out of my "Pile-O'-Quantech stuff" and fax it to you. Send me an e-mail if you'd like it.

We were at the New England users group meeting on March 16, Ken Simmons, VP of Marketing for Corbel stated at the meeting:

For single licience users, they are re thinking the GUPPA to ORCALE conversion. that is required before we can upgrade to 5.0. His instructions to single machine users still on GUPPA is not to proceed with the conversion.

Let me try to clarify. At the New England User Group meeting, I did say that anyone thinking of converting from the Gupta Single User (SA) version of QT should hold off until further notice as we were investigating alternatives to Personal Oracle (PO7) for SA users. This decision was based on a number of factors including disk space required for Oracle, migration to newer versions of Oracle and advances by other vendors in Single User databases. I also said that I had hoped that this analysis would soon be over and it is. As of today, we will continue using PO7 as our choice for SA users. Shipments of the Gupta to Oracle conversion utility (for version 4.x) have once again commenced. QT version 5.0 will still be an Oracle release for both multi-user and single user shops. We will send a notice to all of our clients of this fact next week. While this investigation began late in the update cycle and could have caused the release to single user workstation shops to have been delayed, I thought it more prudent to make sure we had explored all the options rather than to have ignored the changes in database technolgy. If there are any questions I can answer personally, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail.

Thank You
