SLuskin Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Does anyone want to comment on a claim we recevied for "sunscreen shirts'? They were ordered from a company specializing in sun protection garments and were quite expensive. We denied the claim as being for personal use. The participant did not give any information with regard to having had skin cancer (a very real possibility in South Florida) or any other medical condition. Thanks.
Guest Pensions in Paradise Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Couldn't all shirts be considered 'sunscreen shirts'?
WDIK Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Some clothes are apparently registered Medical Devices. See this site as an example. ...but then again, What Do I Know?
GBurns Posted November 1, 2003 Posted November 1, 2003 I notice that the manufacturer only makes the claim that it is registered as a Medical Device but does not indicate that it was approved or given clearance etc. nor classification nor the required labeling and product information on the marketing materials on the website. All I see is an unsupported vague claim. Here is a brief idea of what is required etc in order to be or be properly called a Medical Device: http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/devadvice/3122.html#introduction George D.
