Guest sphile Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 An employee submitted a claim that included mileage reimbursement for his doctor's visits. Not sure if this is an acceptable expense & what can of substantiation would be required. How is it determined if this expense is essential to medical care? Any advice or info would be great! Thanks
Guest JerseyGirl Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 The IRS does allow for mileage reimbursements; the going rate for 2004 is 14 cents per mile. However, many plan sponsors do not allow it, so check the plan document (always a good place to start). The easiest way for a participant to provide documentation is to include a MapQuest print-out of the trip from point A to point B.
Guest sphile Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Thanks for your help! I checked the plan docs & there is not mention of transportation cost in there.
Kirk Maldonado Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 You should know that the mileage rate gets increased from time to time. I think that the current rate is in IRS Publication 502, which is on the IRS website. Kirk Maldonado
