Guest 2stressed Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 I'm doing the 5500s for a profit sharing plan for a doctor's office. He added a 412(i) plan for 2003 that someone else is administering and doing the wrap work, testing, 5500s, etc. My question -- on the pension plan 5500, for question 8a (pension benefits characteristics) do I need to use code 2D (Offset Plan) because of the 412(i) plan? Thank you.
SoCalActuary Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 The obvious response - ask the other guy doing the 412i. Did they include an offset provision in their 412i design? Otherwise, your plan does not have an offset provision, does it? Normally 412i is not using an offset formula, as this just makes it much too complex to coordinate benefit amounts.
Blinky the 3-eyed Fish Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 I read 2D to apply if the contributions in this plan were being offset. It sounds like you should know the answer to that (it would be extremely unlikely that the DC benefits would be offset by 412(i) benefits). "What's in the big salad?" "Big lettuce, big carrots, tomatoes like volleyballs."
