I have searched this forum and found this question asked before, but nobody answered it the first time.

We have to amend a 5500 for an incorrect Employer EIN. Amended returns are to include Form 5500 and any affected schedules. Since each schedule has the Employer EIN on it, should I conclude that all the schedules filed with the original 5500 must also be filed with the amended return?

Thanks.

Kate - FWIW - I think it is a good idea since, as you pointed out, the EIN is on those schedules. I always highlight where I made the changes, so I would send in all affected schedules. Others????

First, I agree with pmacduff.

Second, I would anticipate computer generated letters from the IRS at some point, because I don't think that their system has a way of matching up two filings, one with an incorrect EIN and another with an amended/corrected EIN.

Perhaps it would be prudent to take preemptive action by sending a letter of explanation along with the amended return and hope that someone can key the change into the system.

...but then again, What Do I Know?
