Guest ehs Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I am an extreme novice when it comes to HSA's and the relationship (or lack there of) with FSA's. So please don't laugh at me . Is speech therapy or acupuncture eligible under the limited purpose FSA? Does participant enrolled in HSA have to prove that they have met deductible before submitting these to the FSA, or can we reimburse before or without this proof?
Mary C Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 In order to qualify to have an HSA, any FSA the participant is in must be limited in purpose to reimburse only for dental and vision expenses. Speech therapy is considered a medical expense and would not be reimbursable under a limited purpose FSA. Accupuncture could be for many ailments and although I've never heard of it used for vision purposed, it could be. You would need to know the underlying diagnosis or condition to determine if its reimbursable.
jmor99 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I thought there were 2 kinds of limited purpose FSAs that could be used in conjunction with an HSA. One kind allows for wellness/routine physicals/preventive first dollar coverage the other is for "after the deductible" co-insurance payments.
