Final filing

Calendar year plan terminated 1/17/06 and all plan assets were distributed by 2/28/06.

What do I use to prepare final filing if there are no 2006 forms available?

You have to use the 2005 forms until the 2006 are available. Make sure you show the dates at the top of the form and you can cross out 2005 and write 2006.

The alternative is to just wait, file and extension and hope the new forms are available by 12/15/06 and file on the 2006 form.

But, it's a real pain in the neck to do this manually...on every page of the entire return. Is there any way to get Relius to cross out the "2005" and type in "2006" automatically?

Don't worry about crossing off the 2005. Just put the proper plan year at the top and that will be fine. Remember it's scanned in and they aren't going to scan in a handwritten change.

Blinky, go figure, it was someone at EFAST who told me to do this back in January.

Very interesting, Blinkmeister. All these years, I've laboriously crossed out the wrong year, and typed in the appropriate year, on every single page of the return. What you're saying is that it's ok to enter the dates of the final, short plan year in Form 5500, Part I and simply leave the other pages as they are?

That is what I am saying. My reasoning comes from many instances of personal experience with terminating plans. We stopped crossing off the year on the forms once EFAST came about, with the thought it was scanned and wouldn't matter. We have yet to receive any correspondence from the DOL asking any questions.
