Guest Nini Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 What are the options when a participant has underspent the health fsa account. elects COBRA and period runs beyond run-out period? New to this and need some assistance - thanks!
namealreadyinuse Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 COBRA extends the normal run out that would apply based on his termination of employment, but you probably knew that. COBRA should not be the full 18 months if that is what you are asking. It only takes them to the end of the period of coverage. The normal run out period should apply then, correct?
Guest Nini Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 So a participant would have to elect coverage prior to the end of the coverage period?
papogi Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 They would have to elect the FSA COBRA (extension of health FSA coverage past the termination date) during the normal COBRA election time frame. If they elect it, they can only keep it up to the end of the current flex plan year. They can extend their other health benefits for a total of 18 or 36 months, but the FSA only up to the end of the plan year.
