Guest jefe96 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 When should (or should not) line 7f of the 5500 equal line 7g? The plan is a MPP plan with no excluded groups of ee's. This would mean that all active participants are also receiving a benefit and should therefore have an account balance at year end, right? Along SSA and retirees and a few deceased participant balances in the plan The record keeper is coming back with some variances between the numbers and we can't really figure out what the cause would be.
JanetM Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Line f is total of active, deferred vested and deceased and beneficiaries. Line g is count of those with balance. These normally are the same or about the same. There could be problems counting alternate payees or beneficiaries. JanetM CPA, MBA
Tom Poje Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 if I understand your question properly the following could occur. plan has usual 1 year wait, entry dates of 1/1 and 7/1 Fred is hired 2/2/05 works 1000 hours so enters plan on 7/1/06. however in 06 he only worked 888 hours. it takes 1000 hours to receive a contribution, so he could be a participant and not have an account balance.
Guest jefe96 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Entry dates are 1st of month after 1 year of service and there is no requirement on receiving contributions though.
