Guest Benefit Specialist Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I think that I remember in the last year a new law being passed that if a dependent delays going to college to go to the military, then they get an additional time period to remain on their parents coverage when they do return home and enter college. Example, dependent goes to the military at age 20 and therefore is removed from health insurance. Dependent returns home at age 22 and begins college (change in status and added to parent's plan). Our age cutoff is 23 but I think the dependent is allowed to stay on because of a military exception but I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks for your help.
JanetM Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 HB 209 in Kentucky. Did not make it out of committee in 2006. SB 869 in PA passed as Act 2005-83. Only covers students whose school is interupted by reserve or national guard duty. Not sure if voluntary enlistment in active duty is covered. What Branch only has 2 year service length? When I joined in 1982 minimum was 4. JanetM CPA, MBA
Jacmo Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I don't think there are any 2 year lengths UNLESS you signed up as a reservist (4 years of reserve duty while in college) then 2 years active duty.
