Belgarath Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 If you aren't a baseball fan, read no further! Hopefully this post will be active until the end of the month. Nice game by Beckett last night. And we'll hope for a Cleveland win in the series against the Yankees. Part of me wants the excitement of a Sox/Yankee matchup, but another part of me can't bear the agony if the Sox lose to the Yankees. We also have two employees in our unit with the unmitigated gall to be Yankee fans, so they will be insufferable if the Yankees were to defeat the Sox. So go Tribe!
jpod Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I must admit, reluctantly, that the Rockies are probably the best team in the NL right now by far, and possibly all of MLB. But the Phightin Phils are not dead yet.
Belgarath Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Ha! If I remember my sports trivia history, there was an Englishman - a boxer - Phil Scott, who was nicknamed "Phainting Phil, the Swooning Swan of Soho." Also "The Horizontal Champion." So in spite of their amazing late season comeback (which was impressive, but also facilitated by Mets ineptitude) we'll still call them the Phainting Phils. I just don't see how they can win with that pitching staff, but stranger things have happened.
Guest LauraVanSteeter Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I believe the Diamondbacks have the best record. . .
stephen Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Happily the Indians beat the Yankees last night!
Belgarath Posted October 8, 2007 Author Posted October 8, 2007 I was astonished at the amount of cheering for the BoSox at a game in the Anaheim home stadium. We are everywhere! Even now, my brethren have infiltrated strategic government posts in Washington, and our coup is well underway. Hereafter, all Yankee fans will be subject to tongue-lashing and being severely thrashed with wet noodles.
French Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 The wish came true - the Yankees are gone for another year Go Red Sox!

stephen Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 David, The Braves can't be in the playoffs every year. Stephen
AndyH Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 What is all the excitement? Baseball season ended about two weeks ago. NO, that was just your favorite Red Sox minor league team's season; when your season tickets ran out.
Guest Judy S Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 From a lifetime Tribe fan, here's hoping your wish to play the Indians comes back to haunt you! Go Tribe!
jevd Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Go Rockies! One more game to go and then Just 4 of 7 . After 20 of 21 should be a slam dunk JEVD Making the complex understandable.
Effen Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 2 to 1 Tribe. Why is Red Sox nation suddenly so quite? AndyH Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Because J.D. "Nancy" Drew is batting 6th while potentially our best player, Jacoby Ellsbury, sits on the bench, waiting to replace Manny for defensive purposes.
jevd Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 This town went crazy last night. The brooms were out in force. Too bad they didn't use them to sweep the streets too. Sorry D Backs. It was our year. Don't know who to root for in the east. I've been a Yankee fan as a child but then I grew up and have been a Sox fan because I've been an under dog too. Good luck to both teams back there. We'll be ready. JEVD Denver JEVD Making the complex understandable.
Belgarath Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Andy, I think every Red Sox fan in the country agrees with you. And while I try not to make a practice of second guessing managers, I'd pitch Beckett tonight.
Belgarath Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 We need another miracle here! Rally caps on, y'all. It sure doesn't look good, but we'll hope for the best. If we can win tonight and get it back to Fenway, and make sure that Gagne NEVER throws a pitch, at least we have a small chance. The Indians have impressed me, however - you've got to give them credit.
Guest Judy S Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Belgarath, thanks for the credit for our lowly paid, highly motivated, great to watch Tribe. As you can imagine, this town is hungry for a win tonight - another sleepless one is in store!
MoJo Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 3-1 Tribe! I live in Akron (20 miles south of Cleveland). 'Nuff said.
AndyH Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 What is is like for Indian fans knowing that batters 6 and 9 are automatic outs, and batters 7 and 8 are real close? And that the one guy who could change things (a real Indian, BTW-Navajo I believe) is on the bench?
Effen Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 deleted due to mis-understanding - I was wondering what he was referring too. Thanks for putting my straight Belgarath. Now, can you do anything about the issues in the Middle East? Belgarath Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Effen - I think he was referring to our (BoSox) automatic outs, not Cleveland.
stephen Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 It's better than being a Yankee's fan. The Yankees spent even more money to see their team, lose in the first round to these same Indians. After all watching the Yankees lose is almost as fun as watching the Red Sox win.
Belgarath Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 HOOYAH!!! How 'bout them Sox? Unfortunately, this means several more nights with little sleep, but you can't have everything.
Effen Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I will give it to the Sox. Beckett was incredible and the high prices Sox hitters finally appeared. I'm still not sure why they held Lofton at third, but once the next hitter hit into the DP, I knew the Sox were going to blow it open, which they did. I guess I just became a Rockies fan. MoJo Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Rockies? Sox? Those are teams that did well LAST year.... - the season now being over Chief Wahoo will rise again!
JanetM Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 JEVD - back at you Go Rockies! This town is going to be crazy this weekend! What great season. JanetM CPA, MBA
Belgarath Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Did I understand correctly that there was snow there this weekend? Baseball is better played in the sultry tropical air of New England!

JanetM Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 LOL Denver in the fall and spring. Gotta love the unpredictable patterns. Go Rockies! JanetM CPA, MBA
jevd Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Rockies Tickets Sold out in 2 1/2 HRs. After Yesterday's fiasco. Lot of Purple People think the scalpers got them. Don't know what really happened but the stands will be full. I just hope more Purple than Red. We're Ready. See you tomorrow night. JEVD Making the complex understandable.
Belgarath Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 Hey Andy - I hear rumors that Ellsbury is starting in center tonight. Yay! To all you Rockies fans - while I obviously hope the Bosox win, there isn't anything not to like about the Rockies, so I won't feel too bad if the Rockies win. However, even if the Sox weren't the better team (which of course they are) the simple law of averages has to catch up with the Rockies SOMETIME - and I think now would be just about the right time. Our boss is fully expecting production to fall off about 40% in the next week, as the entire gang will be suffering from sleep deprivation. These darned late games...

Our boss is fully expecting production to fall off about 40% in the next week, as the entire gang will be suffering from sleep deprivation. These darned late games... And for those not sleep deprivated by baseball, there is a matter of a football game Thursday night that some of us BC alum with "Flutie for Heisman" hats on our shelves cannot miss.
Belgarath Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 I'm not a BC alum, but was always a huge Flutie fan. I remember watching that Miami/BC "Hail Flutie" game when I was in college, with a bunch of friends/roommates from Chelmsford, Billerica, Leominster, and Newton (guess who they were rooting for, and yes, I'm old!) and I still rank it as the single most exciting college football game ever. So a lot of work with that "recall" button on the remote for Thursday night, I guess!
JanetM Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 We Rockies fans are believing the law of averages will catch up - but not until Monday. Besides, I have my Purple Rockies shirt and matching shoes on for good luck. JanetM CPA, MBA
AndyH Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 How many of our line drives will be "elevated" to home runs up there? Do double play grounders by grossly overpaid right fielders turn into hits out there? Can really fast fill-in previously-benched center fielders take 3 bases on wild pitches up there instead of 2? Do goofy left fielders who like to retreive balls and then spin and throw without looking get a couple of extra unexpected rotations? Think Manny-top. I'm looking forward to climate issues.

AndyH Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Since we're in the humor column, how about some suggestions about who should throw out the first ball in Colorado?
Tom Poje Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I'll put my money on a fan throwing out the first snowball. The only question would be which Red Sox he throws it at.
JanetM Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Sorry Tom, no snowballs available this weekend. Denver channel 9 predicts 55 & 33 Saturday with wind, 65 & 36 on Sunday and 70 and 38 on Monday. JanetM CPA, MBA
Sully Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I don't know who is going to throw out the first ball (probably John Elway or Kevin Millar), but my money is on Jonathan Papelbon throwing the last one.
AndyH Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Good one Sully. Janet, I know they are impressive, but I doubt the Red Sox will score 55 runs on Saturday.
jevd Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Wait till the fourth inning when they're going for the Oxygen bottle. All is not lost. Just 2 games. Were just getting warmed up. Have no fear. JEVD Making the complex understandable.
JanetM Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 AndyH that would be the temps for the weekend from weather forecast, not the score. LOL It will be a good weekend here in Denver - Go Rockies! JanetM CPA, MBA
Fredman Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 All is not lost. Just 2 games. Were just getting warmed up. Have no fear. Former Cubs fan?

Belgarath Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 And why would the weather forecast for Monday make any difference? Sorry, I was away for a a few days, so I'm just catching up. Vacation was a lot more fun in the days before coming back to a million e-mails.
jevd Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Let me be the first to congratulate the RedSox Nation. Great Series. Not only are the guys a great team but a class act as well. Congratulations to all. JEVD Making the complex understandable.
