Has anyone heard anything regarding Treasury's agreement to consider extending transition rules to 12/31/08 (announced week before last)? Is there any "word on the street"?

At an ALI-ABA conference in DC a week or so ago, Alan Tawshunsky of the IRS indicated that additional relief was under "serious consideration" and that something could be issued very shortly. However, Dan Hagans, the former IRS point on all things 409A now of Morgan Lewis, later cautioned that the IRS may only extend the effective date of the regs by 3 to 6 months and not the year everyone is clamoring for. This may have been what you were referring to as having previously been reported.
