Guest ames Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Does anyone know of a procedure for obtaining a copy of a Schedule SSA that would have been filed a few years ago? I've been on hold with the IRS/SSA for a very long time. . .
Effen Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 You mean other than asking the person who prepared or filed them for a copy? Why are you looking for them? Maybe there is another way to solve your "problem". Maybe there is another way to solve your "problem". The person who prepared and filed (not one of us) no longer has a copy, for reasons that aren't relevant right now. The client has a guy claiming to be a former participant, but their recordkeeper has no record of him. One avenue we're exploring (among others) is checking the SSA for the year he says he worked to see if he was reported as terminated with a balance.
rcline46 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 If the person was a participant, and was paid prior to the time he needed to be reported on an SSA, then getting the SSA would not work (7 mos into the 2nd year after termination!). If he WAS on an SSA, and then was paid, he would be reported as a delete on a subsequent SSA. Better choice is to check distribution records to see if they were paid.
Effen Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I agree with Rcline. If you searched your records the next step would be to have the employer check the payroll records and see if he ever worked there. If you have no record and the employer has no record, this person would need to prove they did work for your client and that they are entitled to a benefit. As far as seing an old SSA, I don't know of any easy way. Did you try the accountant? Often times they keep copies of old 5500s.
