jkdoll2 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 We have a former client who didnt send in the 2006 5500. They want to file it now. Do they have to do it electronically? They got a letter from the IRS about it and they can not file it thru the DFVC program because they were already notified by the IRS. Just want to know if they file electronically for a previous year 5500 when it is late. Thanks
pmacduff Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 FWIW - we just had one of these for 2007. The IRS letter said to send the form in, but after the client did that they got another letter telling them to redo it electronically.
Tom Poje Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 as i recall from the DOL Q and A, the only paper forms they will take are amended 2008 at this point in time. I think (without looking it up) they stopped accepting those after 10/15/2010. It would be nice if you could use the 5500-SF on those as well, but they clearly indicated that was not possible.
WDIK Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 They got a letter from the IRS about it and they can not file it thru the DFVC program because they were already notified by the IRS. Doesn't the notice have to come from the DOL to eliminate the DFVC option? ...but then again, What Do I Know?
DPSRich Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 If the letter comes from the I.R.S. for a 5500 (not an EZ), you are still eligible for the DFVC program. If it comes from the DOL then you are not.
