Does anyone know if the Form 5558 extension has to be "attached" to the Form 5500 electronic filing with EFAST-2. Or is mailing to IRS sufficient. Thanks...

the DOL knows

Q26: If I am filing for an extension of time based on a request for an extension submitted on Form 5558 with the Internal Revenue Service, do I need to attach a copy of the Form 5558 to my Form 5500 or Form 5500-SF?

You do not need to attach a copy of the Form 5558 that was filed with the Internal Revenue Service to the annual return/report in EFAST2. You must, however, keep a copy of the Form 5558 that was filed with the Internal Revenue Service with the plan’s records.

this is just one of the common questions they have answered at

note: as for the form 5500 EZ, well, this only references efile2, so....

I realize I don't need to attach the 5558 but what if I publisha 5500 on Relius and it includes all the existing attachments within the Planbook. The 5558 would then be included in the Efast filing. Is that a problem? If so, must I delete the 5558 before publishing?

the Q and A only says you don't need to attach the 5558, so I would take that to mean its not a problem if you do. in other words, I read that to say 'its optional'

You can select which forms you want to publish on Web Client. You do not have to publish every form you created.

Tom, thank you very much. I actually just found that Q&A#26, then read your response. I should have checked more carefully the first time.
