I have about 20 extensions I need to file for different clients. We usually file these via regular mail with return receipt requested. If we do this individually, it will cost a fortune. Do you think it would be alright to file them together using one of the overnight services?

Yes. We put them all together, with a cover letter listing the plans. The copy of the cover letter and the receipt are kept together in our files.

Hope it's okay. I just did so (as I've always done). However, I failed to check the instructions to determine if it was acceptable to use a paper clip to bundle them together. You never know!

I don't usually prepare 5500 forms in my law practice, but occasionally have to for troublesome situations.

So, I have registered for EFAST2 and am scared to death.

Am I correct that you can still file the extension form 5558 by mail? It seems you guys are doing that.

How do you reflect that you filed for an extension when you file the 5500 with EFAST2?

Thanks,

George

Yes.

Just check the box. In theory, the extension will be in "the system" and everything will tie out. Obviously, you should keep a copy of the extension and proof of mailing just in case.
