DPSRich Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Does anyone know when the 2010 5500-EZ will be available? I have several clients that are both short years (Plan terminated and assets rolledover) and full year Plans (administration completed) that I am ready to complete 5500-EZ's for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
DMcGovern Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I have had a couple terminated plans in 2010 to do on an EZ as well. I finally just used the 2009 form (which is allowed), and put the 2010 dates in Part I.

katieinny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Is it your understanding that EZ filers will be able to stick with paper filings for the foreseeable future? I was thinking that they would be forced to switch to the online SF for the 2010 filing, but it seems not. Some of these clients have been operating their one-person plans for many years and would prefer to keep doing paper filings if possible. One of them had their CPA do a 5500SF last year, and would now like to go back to the paper EZ. I'm hoping that the SF filing doesn't preclude him from going back to the EZ.
Tom Poje Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 since the DOL doesn't seem to care about EZs, that leaves things in the hands if the IRS. with the amazing speed they have produced such things as the new SSA form, along with SB attachment for the SF, and the test for PTINs...oh never mind, I think the paper EZ will be around awhile yet.
katieinny Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Tom: Yes, I see your point. In this case, the snail's pace works in my clients' favor.
Bird Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 The IRS released a draft of the form (why they bother before it can be used I don't know) and the smart money is on them releasing it for filing use in a month or so. Remember that you can use the 2009 form for short 2010 forms. Ed Snyder
Belgarath Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hi Bird - do you know where we can look at the draft? Here it is: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f5500ez--dft.pdf
Guest DNH Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Hi there. So if I have a 2010 EZ for a 07/30/10 year end which is in extension and due 5/15 I guess I should file a SF? What would 'you' do? Thx. DN

mwyatt Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Think the 7/30/2010 posited was for a short year, 1/1/2010-7/30/2010, hence the reference to 2010 filing.
