Historical Form SSA Info

Does anyone know if it is possible to receive a report from the SSA or other agency showing who has been reported on Form SSA as being entitled to a future benefit? Like many employers, we conscientiously reported people who were due a benefit but were much less careful about reporting those who were subsequently paid out. Of course now we receive calls from those participants when they are notified that they may have a benefit due, resulting in significant research to document the fact that distribution was made. I would love to be able to request a report showing everyone still showing up as Code A in any of our several plans. The alternative, going through years of paper filings, is rather daunting. Has anyone ever done this? Any assistance is appreciated.

I seriously doubt it - privacy matters and all that. Just the fact that it would make things easier for us makes it unlikely.

Theoretically you could manually review all of the prior 5500s. Not something I'd want to take on, but perhaps a good project for an intern?

That is what I am hoping to avoid, not to mention that I don't know how many of our prior filings are accessible. I'm considering reporting everyone who received deferred distributions as "D"s without first checking to see if they were "A"s, but am wondering if that would just open a different can of worms.

I asked this question on the Form 8955-SSA thread. We took over a couple of plans recently which terminated, and don't know if any or all of the deferred vested participants were ever reported as "A". We decided to report them as "D" now that they are being paid out. Seems like this was the general thought, but I don't think anyone knew what will happen if there's a "D" when there was never a "A".

IMHO, there is nothing wrong with this.

BTW, if the plan is DB and the previously reported A has begun receiving monthly payments, that person should also be reported as D.
