DPSRich Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Doing a 2009 and 2010 combined form. Only have 1 Participant to report under Code D as the Plan is now closed out as all other Participants have received their distributions. Final 5500-SF already filed. Question: Do I enter the Code D Participant under line 6b, since I am voluntarily reporting this Participant? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. DPSRich
Bird Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 If you follow the instructions, the answer is no (true, it's voluntary, but it's not "...in the same year as the separation occurred." If you're mailing in a paper copy I think it is fine to have a 0 on that line (and line 6a). If you're filing through FIRE you'll probably get an error; pick a line (6a/b) and put it in there just to get it through. Ed Snyder

Since Code D has to be put somewhere to file through FIRE, if a Code D would have been put on a 2009 form, I entered on 6a, if a Code D would have been put on a 2010 form, I entered on 6b. As far as I know, Code D should be put on the form year in which the participant was paid.
