Has anyone who filed their 2009 5500-SF Form through Relius Web Client and received the following acknowledgement

Current Status: Filing_Received

then had their client (former client) receive a letter stating that they never filed?

Any help that you can provide on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance to all of those who respond.

I don't use Relius Web Client, but have a couple of thoughts.

1. As part of the "Filing_Received" status, there should be an "Acknowledgement ID", a very long series of numbers. As far as I know, if you have this "AckID", that's all you need to "prove" the filing was done.

2. You might try www.efast.dol.gov, and search for the Form 5500 filing to see if it's there.

Thank you.

Relius in 2009 did not provide those acknowlegement numbers. When a Relius support person checked the EFAST website the form was there.

One other thought, since the filing was on EFAST. Did the letter state that they never filed, or was filed after the filing deadline.

was the form on the dol site actually signed properly? i've seen cases where the form was received on the site and Relius gave us a filing received status, but the form on the dol site stated "improper signature". it has something to do with the fact that relius is quickly checking the parameters of the e-signature but cannot actually match it up to the dol's site. I have sent them a trouble ticket about it and they were looking into it

it's my understanding that's it isn't a proper filing if it's not correctly signed. i'd look at the signature ASAP. I think we are actually going to add a caveat to our cover letter for e-filing this year that the sponsor needs to double check their signature on the dol page. It's all very frustrating.

good luck!

I have seen letters to clients from the IRS using phantom plan id numbers and saying that the Form 5500 was not filed. When explained to the IRS that the plan number on their correspondence is wrong and showing proof the the Form 5500 (proper plan number) was filed timely they usually go away.
