jsmith1985 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Based on my understanding, when I made an extension payment through EFTPS online system, I automatically got a 6 month extension to file my taxes. (Since I'm expecting a refund anyhow, it does not really matter). And my understanding is that since I have an extension to file my taxes until today Oct 15, I can file my Form 5500 today without any problems. Thoughts?
Lou S. Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 yes see instructions on page 4 http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/pdf/2013-5500-sfinst.pdf these are for SF, but similar instrutions can be found in 5500 and EZ as well.
jsmith1985 Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 that link is a bit different than the instructions on 5500-EZ. EZ says Oct 15 whereas the above link suggests that an extension no later than 9.5 months beyond plan close year will be given which means Sep 15. So with EZ we get an extra month.
My 2 cents Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 that link is a bit different than the instructions on 5500-EZ. EZ says Oct 15 whereas the above link suggests that an extension no later than 9.5 months beyond plan close year will be given which means Sep 15. So with EZ we get an extra month. If you are talking about a calendar year plan year (aren't you?), September 15th is 8.5 months after the end of the prior plan year, and October 15th is 9.5 months after the close of the plan year. Always check with your actuary first!
jsmith1985 Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 You are absolutely correct. My bad. Should have counted on hand instead of in head.
