Lou S. Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Trying to send off our Extensions Form 5558 via UPS for proof of delivery today and the IRS address on the form is simply Department of the TreasuryIRSOgden, UT 84201-0045 No street address. Can we use the 5500-EZ filing address for private delivery service? Internal Revenue Submission Processing Center 1973 North Rulon White Blvd. Ogden, UT 84404 This address is not in the 5558 instructions but is in the 5500-EZ
Andy the Actuary Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 In June I sent 5558 to the Ogden address -- no street -- and received the return receipt. I.e., it worked. I personally would be reluctant to try the street address given I received the acknowledgement without it. ESOP Guy Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 We send all of our Form 5558 without the street address via certified mail every year. No issues have happened. My understanding is (and it could be the wrong understanding) that with the 9 digit zip code the last part of the zip gets it done. That part of the IRS gets so much mail that only the section of the IRS has that last two digits for a zip code.
Bird Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 If you're sending by US Mail then you don't need the street address. We've been using the North Rulon White Blvd. address for a number of years, via UPS, with success. I think I remember someone having a problem with FedEx but I think they didn't use the street address - that generally won't work with a delivery service. Ed Snyder
