Recently, we filed 9 separate 2015 5558s for a client, all at the same time. The confirmations that the client received had the correct EINs, but all of the PNs (plan numbers) were listed as 000. Has anyone seen this recently?. After contacting the IRS, their response was, oh well, at least you got 9 confirmations back, so you should be okay. Just checking to see if this is systematic for 2015 extensions or a one off. Thanks!

If the 5558s were for 5500 and/or SSA filings, who needs anything back from the IRS? File the form, the extension is automatic. May want confirmation if the filing was for 5330s, but filing en masse like that implies that the 5558 was not for that purpose.

Always check with your actuary first!

Well... in the past, the IRS took much time to enter the 5558 info into their data base. So 5500 filings just after the original due date generated late filing letters. And the best recourse was the IRS letter acknowledging the 5558 receipt and extended due date. Now, if the PN's are all 000, maybe this will cause late filing letters since the 5500 has a different PN. But I think the EFAST acknowledgement ID should be OK too. But still a hassle...

I had a client just recently get back an extension approval with no PN for an extension that was sent on 11/30/2015 - I guess they are VERY behind in getting these processed. (note: the return was filed back in February prior to the approved 2/16/2016 extended due date)
