Elapsed Time Nightmare

I am really frustrated trying to keep up with years of vesting service using elapsed time in Quantech. Just as one example, I have one particular employee in my plan who had 0 years vesting service as of 12/31/98 and for some reason incremented to 4 years as of 12/31/99 with no change in date of hire. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions or opinion regarding Quantech's capability to correctly calculate vesting under the elapsed time method?

haven't heard of any such problem, but then I only have one such animal.

now, I don't know how you have things coded, and

regardless of whether its elapsed time or not, I do strongly recomend that you set 'past years svc computation' to 'not computed' the second year the plan is on the system.

you indicated the ee had 0 years svc the first year.

the system will always try to recompute past years if it finds a 0 on anyone - but since you don't need to calculate past years (it was done last year), then turn the silly thing off. if you did indeed have the system coded to 'half years credited' or 'whole years credited', that will not explain why the system gave someone 4 years, but I would expect switching to 'not computed' might work.

maybe I should stress that again,

in our office, it is REQUIRED to set the past year's field to 'not computed' the second year on the system.

consider the following (non elapsed time):

ee hired 3/1/99 works 800 hours, so svc yrs = 0

in the year 2000, system coded 'compute past years', since ee has 0 yrs of svc, system says I need to compute past svc, and ee is given credit for 1999. oops.

again, that might not be what is going on in your case, but changing the coding (if past years is set to 'half years credited' )might work

Changing the "past years" option would not affect how elapsed time years calculate -- this calculation is performed each time eligibility is posted, regardless of whether or not there is a number there already.

Perhaps something in plan specs or census (for this employee) that was changed since the last time eligibility was posted, for example is the method "elapsed time" or "elapsed time (rounded)"?

you did not indicate ees doh. if it was 4 years ago, then you would expect the system to show 4 years. (even if it showed 0 last year) since system recomputes every year- this would imply that last year's value was incorrect.

(elapsed time doesn't care how many hours someone worked - it is simply a calc from one date to another)

by the way, service is incremented by one year (if there was a value in the svc field) while the vesting svc field appears to be recalculated every year.

This means in the case of a hire-quit-rehire-etc you will have manual adjustments required.
