well, we are up and running. a lot less problems than last year at 5.0 . I believe most, if not all the printing problems we had at 5.0 are now fixed.

some initial problems because we had a more recent upgrade of NT then Quantech, but they were able to get around these problems rather quickly.

some points that aren't necessarily real clear in the notes:

All custom reports must now reside in one folder (unless you want to keep resetting the file location under Utilities) we had had our custom reports asigned to sub-folders. (under reports you are further able to assign your custom report to the custom folder, or, for instance, assign your certificates to the certificate section)

You are also limited to a file name of 8 characters. At 5.0 we had gotten real cute with the names since you could have more than 8 character names. However, nothing is lost, as you are now able to asign a desription to each report.

(under reports you are further able to assign your custom report to the custom folder, or, for instance, assign your certificates to the certificate section)

Since you should verify database on each of your reports it is simply a matter of renaming your reprots(If you used more than 8 characters) and assigning the reports to one folder (if you used sub folders)

Maybe we the only ones who did this anyway and so this note won't make a difference to you anyway

and, I guess I would add the following, before I get accused of it, I am not griping, I am simply pointing out our experience. we had verified the database on aa few reports, then tried to use them and discovered that we should have renamed them as well.

Thanks, Tom, for the update...we're looking at completing our conversion to 6.0 late this quarter.

We're in the same reports boat as you were..we segregated our reports into subdirectories, and we renamed them to give them meaningful names. I'm concerned about QT 6 only supporting 8 character report names..it indicates a possible step backward in technology (maybe some of the new code is 16 bit code??? I can only guess).

Anyway..thanks again for the early review..sounds like this upgrade will be much smoother than the Qt 5 upgrade!

I would not be overly concerned about the 8 character issue.

as I indicated you can now attach a description to your crystal report (not in Crystal, but when you add the report to your report writer directory)

I think the description can be up to 50 characters.

The disadvantage is if you desire to fix a crystal report, you are back to remembering what your 8 character code.

I actually have saved the reports in two directories as a result. One directory call ReportsAll which Quantech reads.

Then I have a bunch of sub-folders...e.g. summary of accounts, adp tests, certificates, etc.

I still have the 8 character code, but instead of searching through all custom reports, I simply locate the report i want in the subdirectory. I then make any adjustments/corrections/changes and save the report twice.

once in the subfolder and once in the reportsAll folder.

Probably the biggest plus you will like at 6.0 is the select capability. it is a lot easier to call up a particular plan, locate an ee, etc.

probably the thing you will hate (even Ken Simons at Quantech said you will either like it or hate it) is the tool bar icons. e.g. as far as I can tell the icon for DER setup is a hammer and wrench. Well, I guess it could have been a hammer and sickle.
