thepensionmaven Posted November 24, 1999 Posted November 24, 1999 I'm a TPA who works exclusively with Qualified Plans. Occasionally, we do POP plans for our clients and the 5500s. One of my clients asked me about premium only plans, flexible spending accounts and medical spending accounts, as of they were one thing. I don't know anything about MSAs or FSAs and must get educated rather quickly or someone else will get the business. Where can I go for help. I tried to view those FSA IRS audit guidelines, but quite obviously, they want you to buy their service to get the full view. Any assistance is helpful. Steve
Dave Baker Posted November 24, 1999 Posted November 24, 1999 Take another look, pensiondoc -- all of the IRS guidelines (only 8 pages long, though) are posted online by EBIA -- click on the "IRS Training Manual" link on this Web page: http://www.ebia.com/cafeteria.html
Kirk Maldonado Posted November 24, 1999 Posted November 24, 1999 If you have access to a tax library, I'd recommend BNA Tax Management Portfolio 397 - Cafeteria Plans. It contains a thorough explanation of cafeteria plans. Kirk Maldonado
Dave Baker Posted November 24, 1999 Posted November 24, 1999 pensiondoc - please update your email address (use the "My Profile" link at the top of most pages). Thanks!
Lisa Hand Posted November 27, 1999 Posted November 27, 1999 Steve: In addition to the IRS audit guidelines, there are 5 sets of proposed regulations, one set of temporary regulations and a wide range of things which must be done properly to keep FSAs in compliance. Instead of trying to get up to speed in a new area which you have no background, you might want to consider working with another TPA who specializes in Section 125 Plans. The BenefitsLink yellow pages have a number of them under Cafeteria Plans. That way you keep the business and your clients gets the expertise and service they need.
