Guest TRIADtrisha Posted April 9, 2001 Posted April 9, 2001 Would a reversal of a vasectomy be an eligible expense? Thank you!
Guest Benefits Maven Posted April 10, 2001 Posted April 10, 2001 It is surgery and it is not cosmetic. I would say yes it is a covered expense.
GBurns Posted April 10, 2001 Posted April 10, 2001 Since there is most likely no real medical reason for the reversal and the reason usually is vanity or personal it should not be an eligible expense. If you can invent medical reasons such as a failed dead sperm test, anxiety disorder caused by fear of increased risk to testicular or prostate cancer, health threatening weight gain etc you might get a doctor to state that it is medically necessary. Other than that it is voluntary elective vanity surgery. George D. Guest TRIADtrisha Posted April 10, 2001 Posted April 10, 2001 Thanks for your input. I did find this information directly from the IRS web site. Fertility Enhancement You can include in medical expenses the cost of the following procedures to overcome your inability to have children. Procedures such as in vitro fertilization (including temporary storage of eggs or sperm). Surgery, including an operation to reverse prior surgery that prevents you from having children.
Lisa Hand Posted April 13, 2001 Posted April 13, 2001 Thanks, for posting the clarification from the publication.
