As a part of its continued efforts to assess compliance with the HIPAA Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules, the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has begun its second phase of audits of covered entities and their business associates.
OCR has stated that they will be auditing all types of covered entities, including employer sponsored health plans. All employers who sponsor a health plan have some responsibility under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.
