401(k) Beyond the Basics 03: Eligibility and Vesting Design Considerations

Eligibility and vesting provisions hold several unique design challenges, and are frequent sources of operational failures, because of common misunderstandings. This seminar presents the fine details of designing eligibility and vesting provisions, and then applying those choices operationally.

Topics include:
** Pros and Cons of early eligibility
** Excluding part-time employees
** Entry date options
** Rehired employees
** Break in service rules
** Option out
** Changes in vesting provisions
** Distributions to partially vested participant
** Reemploying “cashed out” participant
** Partial terminations

Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites or other advanced preparation for this program. The instructor will assume attendees have a general familiarity with the qualified plan requirements, and a minimum of two years of experience in dealing with qualified plans.
