Make sure you are up-to-date and in compliance with Rhode Island's new parental leave laws.

Employers routinely receive requests for time off due to an employee's responsibilities as a parent (or soon-to-be-parent). A number of Rhode Island laws require employers to grant time off for this purpose. Yet, many employers do not fully understand the various legal requirements in this area, how the legal requirements intersect, and how to comply with those laws, as well as the employer's own policies or collective bargaining agreements.

This information helps the persons responsible for handling employee request for parental leave to understand what laws apply and how to coordinate compliance with these laws and internal policies and procedures simultaneously. Failing to comply with these leave laws may result in liability to employers, as well as personal liability for individual decision makers.

This information is critical for employers so they can ensure they are in compliance with all the latest Rhode Island requirements related to parental leave.

Learning Objectives

  • You will be able to identify to what types of leave your employees may be eligible to take due to their caretaking responsibilities as a parent in Rhode Island.
  • You will be able to recognize how the various leave laws intersect and operate together.
  • You will be able to discuss Temporary Caregiver Insurance (CTI).
  • You will be able to explain how to handle parental leave requests with confidence.
