The intersection of Medicare and COBRA is one of the most complex aspects of group health plan administration. Failing to navigate the complexities can be costly.

We’ll give you the background — the ABC’s (and D) of Medicare, and explain the difference between eligibility for and “entitlement to” Medicare.

Our main focus will be the interaction between Medicare and COBRA — for example, explaining when a covered employee’s Medicare entitlement is and is not a COBRA qualifying event, and when a covered employee’s Medicare entitlement can extend COBRA’s maximum coverage period for the employee’s spouse and children. We’ll also highlight some other key Medicare compliance rules.
