Leave is like the weather these days, wait 10 minutes and everything can change! In this session we will cover some of the basics that you are all likely pros at, some items to keep in mind with ADA, and then set the table for what’s coming in 2019 with paid leave and a few things you might be surprised to learn.
We will cover:
- FMLA- after 26 years we seem to have our hands around this. We will highlight a few key items only so you can see how some of the new state laws will or will not run concurrent with the grandfather of them all, FMLA
- ADA- We will outline some key things to consider as accommodations before, during and even as a leave all require careful and thoughtful process and decision making. More and more we are finding employers struggling to ensure a consistent, fair and compliant process for ADA requests
- Paid Leave- we will outline for you the activity emerging state by state and what that means to you. We will run through a few scenarios so you can actually see the amount of protected time workers can take and you will be surprised how many states are building protected time that DOES NOT match that of FMLA
- What you should be prepared for- we will outline what is coming by showing you key dates and timelines as well as from an employer perspective what you can do to remain one step ahead of the explosion of both paid and unpaid leave activity.
